Man Made Boy by Jon Skovron

Man Made BoyThis book – again from the 2014 INKYs longlist is about 16yo “Boy”. It is funny, romantic, and a little off beat.  Boy is the hacker son of Frankenstein and he meets the granddaughter of Jekyll and Hyde and they go on a roadtrip.  Now Boy is away from home, he is meeting real people and other monsters in a very funny drive across America filled with lots of escapades.  See more reviews at  LD

Going Bovine, by Libba Bray

Going BovineThis is an awesome book! It is so different to anything I have ever read because there are so many weird characters. For example, there is Gonzo, who loves gaming but is obsessed with death, and oh yeah, he is a dwarf.  The story is about Cameron, who has mad cow disease, searching the world for a cure because an angel tells him he can be saved. So, there are lots of adventures. It is a pretty big book , but it didn’t matter because it was so good.

Swerve by Phillip Gwynne

PenguinHugh is 16.
He loves to play the cello.
He has a very important audition to do, the most important audition of his life.
He is a closet car fanatic.
He has his learners permit.

Six days before his audition, Hugh agrees to drive his grandfather, Poppy, to Uluru in a 1969 Holden HT Monaro GTS 350 V8. This road trip threatens to derail Hugh’s audition and his parents are not very happy about this.

The road trip exposes Hugh to people, places and experiences that he never knew existed and he discovers quite a few secrets about his Poppy and about his family.
Great read 9/10
